2020 Deep Creek High School Scholarship Award
My name is Sumama Haque, and I graduated from Deep Creek High School. Throughout high school, I have been a part of several organizations including Spanish Club, National Honor Society, and Key Club. During my senior year, I was president of Key Club and vice president of Spanish Club. In the community, I have volunteered at a hospital, an Islamic school, and the library. This fall, I will attend the University of Virginia, and I plan to major in biology. In the future, I hope to go to medical school in order to become a surgeon.
I have been a member of Key Club for four years, and the experiences I have had will have a lasting impact on me. Volunteering with Key Club has allowed me to give back to my community and my school, and I genuinely enjoyed the work we did. Through Key Club, I have been able to learn important life and leadership skills and grow as a person.
2020 Great Bridge High School Scholarship Award
My name is Gavin and I went to Great Bridge High School. Throughout high school, Key Club has always been my favorite club and has truly made my high school experience amazing. I will always be grateful for the opportunities Key Club provided me as President. From volunteering at the local food bank to marches, we truly felt the impact we were making on the community. Next year I plan to study at the University of Virginia to eventually become a Physician Assistant.
2020 Oscar Smith High School Scholarship Award
My name is Sophia. Joining the Kiwanis International Key club is one of the greatest choices in my life. Key club taught me so many things about leadership, organizational skills, teamwork and helping me improve my community.
Five years ago, I was a student who could not speak English and now I can speak it fluently. I continued to graduate with an honors degree. Now, onto the next chapter of my life as I will attend ODU where I will major in Biology. My goal is to continue serving my community by becoming an obstetrician.
